The XJ1 design features a series of precision-machined J-Hook grooves across the braking surface. These grooves help refresh the brake pad surface and clear away brake dust, gases and debris generated during braking. This helps maintain effective contact between the pad and disc, promoting responsive brake bite and consistent pedal feel during demanding road use.

Each J-Hook creates additional leading edges across the disc face, allowing the brake pad to engage positively with the friction surface. The result is a more purposeful braking response compared with a standard smooth-faced disc, making the XJ1 particularly suited to performance road cars, fast-road driving and occasional track-day use.
